The 91st Oscars crowned GREEN BOOK its winner of the best picture award, which I can't speak too much about as it's the only best picture nominated film I haven't seen yet.
I am respectful to Spike Lee's criticism of the film as a perpetuation of the "white savior" trope, and even though I still need to see the film to respond in an informed way, I have the feeling that where there is smoke, there is fire.
My favorite film ROMA walked away with best director, cinematography and foreign film though, so I can't be too upset.
Some of the Academy's mostly older members, may have been fearful of the change Netflix represents and voted to maintain the status quo. In their defense, even though I sometimes disagree with which film they bestow an award too, I usually agree with the nominations as the best in the business.
With the madness, stars, tourists and doomsayers that Hollywood and Highland attracts on our biggest night gone, the industry turns its attention now to SXSW, from March 8 - 17th in Texas.

(Meanwhile, I turn my attention to prepping my next shoot, June 9th in WeHo.)
